FAQs

What is the R2A test and why is it considered the “gold standard”?

+

R2A is the only EPA approved method for detecting bacteria levels in your dental water.

Our independent laboratory testing partner strictly adheres to the EPA-certified R2A testing protocol (Lab #37917), ensuring you receive the most accurate results possible.

What’s the difference between mail-in R2A tests versus in-office tests?

+

In-office tests provide quick results but may not detect all bacteria types.

The Sterisil® R2A with FASTRead™ mail-in test offers laboratory-grade accuracy by an EPA-certified technician using specialized equipment. While in-office tests are useful for routine monitoring, mail-in R2A tests provide comprehensive documentation for regulatory compliance and are recommended for quarterly validation of your water safety program.

Can I test multiple operatories with one kit?

+

Yes! Sterisil® R2A test kits are available with different vial counts (1, 4, 6, 8, 12, or 16) to accommodate practices of all sizes.

Each operatory should be tested using a separate vial to accurately monitor water quality across your entire practice.

What information do I need to provide when submitting my samples?

+

You’ll need to scan the QR code on your test kit packaging and complete a digital order form with your practice information and each vial’s unique ID code.

This ensures your samples are properly tracked and your results are accurately reported to your account.

What is FASTRead™ and is it included with every test?

+

Yes, FASTRead™ is feature that is available to you at no cost.

This premium service provides an notification feature if your samples exceed the water safety limit within the first 24 hours*.

You can’t rush the most reliable method — but as soon as we know there’s a problem, so should you.

*Not all test failures can be identified within 24 hours. Final test results are available in 5-7 days on the My Solutions Center portal.

Why do I need to freeze the kit overnight before use?

+

Freezing the ice pack included in your kit is essential to maintain the proper temperature during shipping.

Bacteria can multiply rapidly at room temperature, which could lead to inaccurate results.

The frozen ice pack helps preserve the integrity of your water samples during transit to our laboratory.

Can I ship the test on any day of the week?

+

No. Please only ship samples Monday through Thursday to ensure they arrive at the laboratory while still viable.

Samples shipped on Friday may sit over the weekend, compromising the accuracy of your results.

Please refer to the Instructions for Use (IFU) for more information pertaining to shipping.

How will I be notified of my test results?

+

If your samples show unsafe bacteria counts within the first 24 hours, you’ll receive an email and phone call from a Sterisil® Water Specialist notifying you of your results.

Final test results will be loaded into the My Solutions Center portal within 5-7 days.

Where can I find my recent and historical test results?

+

All test results are posted in the My Solutions Center portal at Solmetex.com.

Simply log in to your account, navigate to the Water Testing tab, and you’ll be able to access testing history with detailed reports for each sample.

What should I do if I fail a waterline test?

+

If you receive a call/email from a Sterisil® Water Specialist regarding a FASTRead™ result or if final test results for your waterline shows bacteria levels above the CDC guideline of ≤500 CFU/mL, don’t panic—it happens!

Here are the steps to take:

  1. Shock your waterlines immediately using Citrisil® Shock tablets according to the instructions for use (IFU).
  2. Contact our Water Specialists: For support with troubleshooting and recommend solutions specific to your situation.
  3. Review your maintenance protocol to identify potential issues — check your source water quality, review bottle cleaning procedures, and confirm you’re using the correct treatment products for your specific equipment.
  4. Re-test after shocking to verify your waterlines have returned to safe levels.
  5. Document all remediation steps taken to maintain proper compliance records.

Remember, our team is here to help you get back to safe water levels quickly.
