Thank You for Making a Difference
Every day, dental professionals make decisions that extend far beyond the operatory.
From properly managing amalgam waste to reducing water consumption and maintaining compliance with environmental regulations, these choices help protect patients, staff, communities, and the environment. At Solmetex, we see the impact those efforts create, and that’s why October is one of our favorite months of the year.

A Shared Impact Worth Celebrating
When thousands of dental practices commit to responsible waste management, the results add up.
Every properly maintained amalgam separator helps prevent mercury from reaching wastewater treatment systems. Every recycled collection container supports responsible resource management. Every team that embraces environmental compliance contributes to cleaner water for future generations.
These achievements belong to dental professionals across the country who choose to make sustainability a priority. This month, we’re proud to celebrate the practices, teams, and individuals who continue making those efforts year after year.
Sustainability Starts with Everyday Actions
Large environmental goals are often achieved through thousands of small, consistent decisions.
When a dental office properly recycles an amalgam collection container, maintains separator performance, conserves water, or trains staff on waste management procedures, the benefits extend well beyond the practice walls.
These actions help:
- Reduce mercury entering wastewater systems
- Protect local waterways and communities
- Support sustainable dental operations
- Create safer environments for patients and staff
- Strengthen environmental compliance efforts
As a company, Solmetex has always believed that sustainability should be practical, measurable, and easy to implement. That’s why we continue developing solutions that help practices meet environmental goals without adding complexity to daily operations.
Understanding the Four Components of the EPA Dental Rule
Many dental teams are familiar with amalgam separators, but environmental compliance involves more than equipment alone. The EPA Dental Rule focuses on four key requirements designed to reduce mercury discharges from dental offices:

1. Install and Maintain an ISO-Certified Amalgam Separator
Regulation requires the use of an ISO 11143 certified amalgam separator with a separation rate of 95% or greater.

2. Appropriate Dry Amalgam Capture
Regulation requires that all “dry” amalgam waste be collected in a clearly marked amalgam bucket for recycling. Dry waste includes:
- Contact and non-contact amalgam
- Teeth with amalgam
- Chairside traps
- Vacuum filters
- Spent amalgam capsules

3. Use Appropriate Vacuum Line Cleaning Products
Regulation requires the use of only non-chlorine or non-oxidizing disinfectants and neutral vacuum line cleaners with a pH ≥ 6 and ≤ 8.

4. Submit and Maintain Required Documentation
Regulation requires that dental practices provide amalgam waste recycling records showing name and address of disposal company, plus maintenance and service completed. Records must be kept for at least three years.
Together, these four components help create a comprehensive approach to environmental protection, ensuring dental practices can confidently meet their regulatory responsibilities while contributing to cleaner waterways nationwide.
The People Behind the Mission
At Solmetex, environmental responsibility isn’t just reflected in our products. It’s reflected in our people. Every reclaimed collection container, every support call, every order processed, and every practice assisted represents the work of dedicated employees who believe sustainability matters.
From customer service representatives helping practices navigate compliance questions to our operations team supporting recycling efforts, every member of the Solmetex team plays a role in advancing our mission: To help dental professionals protect public health and the environment through innovative compliance solutions.
Customer Appreciation Month is a celebration of that shared partnership. Our success isn’t measured solely by products sold. It’s measured by the collective environmental impact we achieve together.
